You might have the AI tools. But do you and the teachers at your school have the AI Activation strategy?
You have the digital tools. But do your teachers have the activation strategy to actually save time and lift ākonga outcomes?

Every day, there seems to be a new AI tool or use case. The opportunities for both teachers and students are massive, but the "how" can feel daunting.
Right now, many schools face an Implementation Puzzle. You likely already have access to powerful AI features within Google Workspace for Education. But due to legacy backend settings, outdated policies, or a lack of targeted PLD, your teachers cannot use them effectively.
With the exponential rise in teacher workload driven by the diverse needs of our classrooms, there has never been a worse time to be a stressed teacher. But with the right strategic application of AI, there has never been a more important time to implement one.
It is time to move past the "AI hype" and into practical, effective strategies that put people and pedagogy over platforms and overwhelm.

Our AI Activation Blueprint provides a free, comprehensive review of your school's current digital landscape. To ensure AI enhances outcomes rather than compounding stress, we evaluate your readiness across four critical components.

Before AI can enhance outcomes, there must be a process of recalibration. We help identify the old habits that no longer serve your staff and outline the new habits required to embrace AI effectively.

Meeting the needs of our increasingly diverse classrooms requires dynamic teaching strategies. We focus on highly motivating, low-friction strategies that can be implemented quickly.

A blueprint of what we should see, hear, and experience in classrooms. We review how to align policies and observations to create a measurable lift in capacity.

A 'One size fits all' approach doesn’t work for learning. We audit your Google Classroom features and back end infrastructure to ensure your technical environment is optimised for the best outcomes.

We identify your AI readiness & any implementation gaps.
To do this, we will require temporary, secure access to your Google domain to create your individualised blueprint. You'll schedule a quick 5-minute admin access call, then we will get to work creating the blueprint for you. Nothing else is required from you or your team.

You will schedule a time that works for you, and we will discuss your blueprint findings with you and your team. The report covers everything you need to implement the required actions, enabling your staff to make the most of the four pillars in our AI Activation Blueprint. Thus, piecing together the puzzle to effectively use AI in education.

You decide how to implement the findings in the blueprint.
Have your ICT company, or ICT lead, carry out any required changes, or we can assist you with that. All this can be achieved in a week; all you need to do is book two brief appointments, then your staff can effectively use AI to empower students, not overwhelm them.
We don't just talk about AI; we build your roadmap. By claiming your free Blueprint, our technicians will conduct a rapid, secure, "Read-Only" review of your Google Workspace domain. We then present your leadership team with a 1-Page Critical Findings Report, detailing exactly what needs to be updated.

We were fortunate to have Martin work with us recently, and the feedback from staff has been very positive. The world of AI is incredible, and Martin demonstrated many ways to use Google Classroom and Google AI tools to improve outcomes for both students and teachers. Additionally, Mike and the team at Support IT were instrumental in optimising our infrastructure to ensure Martin’s PLD sessions ran seamlessly. If you have the opportunity to work with Martin, I highly recommend taking it. The experience is truly valuable, and you will get a lot out of it!

Martin Hughes and the Learning First team have been instrumental in transforming our approach to teaching and learning. Their focus on effectively using ICT has built a strong foundation, leading to enhanced pedagogies that directly benefit our ākonga. Specifically, Martin demonstrated numerous creative and effective strategies for leveraging both Google Classroom and Class Tools. Crucially, his support is challenging the notion that Scaffolding, Differentiation, and Feedback must equate to increased Teacher workload. Furthermore, Learning First assisted us in optimising our ICT infrastructure and tools, resulting in improved security and better learning outcomes, whilst also saving money. We now consistently gather student voice each term to celebrate achievements and pinpoint individual next steps for our kaiako.

The Learning First approach to change management prioritises collaboration, buy-in and inclusion. Martin's differentiated approach works equally well with our more confident and less confident staff members Martin's support, both at my current school and my previous two schools, has consistently helped us improve learner outcomes, reduce screen time, and increase learner engagement, all without increasing teacher workload. Furthermore, the combined efforts of Mike and the Support IT team have been invaluable. They optimised our ICT infrastructure, ensuring we get the best use out of the tools Martin introduced, resulting in excellent value for money. The Learning First methodology for change management is highly effective, placing collaboration, inclusion, and staff buy-in at the forefront. Martin's differentiated approach is a particular strength, working equally well to support our staff, regardless of their initial confidence levels.

What makes Learning First different from other providers?
Learning First offers a distinct advantage by combining the expertise of experienced educators and technology specialists. This ensures our solutions are grounded in the realities of the classroom and focused on achieving learning-focused outcomes.
The Blueprint is a comprehensive review and report of your school's environment, organised around four critical pillars: People, Pedagogy, Protocols, and Tools. Rather than just looking at what devices you own, we review your Google Workspace backend settings and your pedagogical frameworks and outcomes. The result is a clear, actionable roadmap detailing exactly how to safely and effectively integrate AI to improve student and teacher outcomes.
To accurately assess your technical readiness, we need to see how your backend infrastructure is currently configured. Access allows us to safely review your settings without changing or disrupting anything. It is completely secure. Martin Hughes is a Certified Google Trainer and has worked with NZ schools for over 20 years, maintaining the highest standards of data privacy. At Learning First, we are Google Partners, with a long and productive relationship with Steve Smith, Education Lead for Google NZ and Aus.
Our general recommendation is no, unless they are highly engaged Year 12 or 13 students. As Martin notes, "Technology acts as a behaviour amplifier." If a student currently has poor learning habits, AI will simply amplify them. Instead, our Blueprint focuses on how teachers can use AI behind the scenes to scaffold lessons, differentiate resources, and provide the continuous formative feedback required by our curriculum document.
We recognise that the capability gap in a typical New Zealand classroom can now span between 3 and 5 years. It is incredibly difficult for teachers to manage this bell curve manually. The Blueprint focuses on equipping teachers with the specific AI workflows needed to easily differentiate resources, ensuring that both struggling students and early finishers are appropriately challenged, without adding hours to teachers' workloads.
Many schools are currently suffering from an Implementation Gap. This means you likely already own the necessary tools (such as Google Workspace for Education), but due to legacy backend settings, outdated Board of Trustees (BoT) policies, or a lack of clear staff protocols, your teachers may not be using them effectively or consistently. We bridge that gap so you get the full value from the technology you already have.
Almost none. We understand that school leaders are very committed, which is why we designed this process to be frictionless. It begins with a brief, 5-minute Google Meet to guide you through granting temporary, secure Superadmin access to your Google domain. Our team handles all the heavy lifting and backend analysis. We then schedule a final call to present your completed Blueprint. Any subsequent changes agreed can then be carried out by you or us - whichever suits.
