One Size Fits Nobody

After completing 3 free audits (Security, Learning, and AI use) for nearly 40 schools this year, we have learnt a lot.

Here is what we found

• The majority of the Google Workspace platforms of these schools were:

• Not optimised for Security

• Not optimised for Learning and Teaching

• Not optimised for Google Licences

• Not differentiated to meet the needs of the multiple layers of system users - a one-size-fits-all model prevailed

• Not getting full value from their ICT tech support contracts

In fact, some schools had been locked down so tightly that they weren’t even allowed access to their own Google Workspace domain to fix up the issues that we had discovered during our audits.

The follow-on from this sad state of affairs was that many members of the school community had not been supported and coached to use their devices effectively, because they had been unaware of the many exciting options that had not been enabled for them.

What we do

When the team at Learning First and Support IT begin working with schools, we immediately deliver on all of these issues, so that everyone becomes fully supported and confident in using the best tools in the best ways - regardless of whether they are SLT members, BoT members, SEN support staff or teachers.

In addition, we highly differentiate the performance of the Google platform for the ages and stages of our students.

Wherever possible, we also train 1 or 2 staff members so that they can then manage their Google Platform, so that it can evolve to meet the changing needs of the school community. We then begin a highly engaging PLD program to ensure that when devices are used in our schools, they are used with creativity, care and with a clearly defined purpose.

These critical steps pave the way for schools to then rethink their digital strategy, allowing them to reset and ensure technology is used with purpose to lift outcomes for all. In our rapidly evolving digital landscape, taking these steps becomes remarkably vital as artificial intelligence continues to reshape education.
